Web series / First race for Hugo in the Mini Transat 2020

Not a lot of wind and a ranking in the middle of the table: this is the first result for The Sailing Frenchman, who is gaining experience in single-handed ocean racing.

Hugo, The Sailing Frenchman takes part in his first Mini 650 regatta. The SAS in the bay of Morlaix 2020 which this year offers a very special course. Although it starts classically from Les Sables-d'Olonne, it is not heading for the Azores, but up to Morlaix in Northern Brittany.

This is the first regatta where Hugo is single-handed. He has to make choices of route and options according to his reading of the water. While he gets a good start in the leading pack, he finds himself in the middle of the rankings when the wind dies down heavily.

It must be said that the competition is tough in this Mini category. The differences in speed between the boats are really minimal and it takes all the wisdom and experience of the skipper to get the best out of it.

Uncomfortable in the very light winds, Hugo finished this stage in 19th place. Not too happy with his performance, he hopes to make up for it in the next races, aware that he is also gaining good experience that will serve him well in the future.
