This year, the Mini Les Sables - Azores race will not go to the Azores. The fault lies with Covid. So this race which takes place in the summer changes its name for this year 2020 to be renamed Les Sables-Les Açores in the Bay of Morlaix. It is this race that Hugo, The Sailing Frenchman is preparing.
The sailor was left at the entrance to the port of Les Sables, where he was moored at the Vendée Globe pontoon alongside the IMOCA boats preparing for the legendary race, which is due to start in November 2020.
This time it's the Minis who are in the spotlight. They are 55 registered in the Series category, the one in which Hugo and his Maxi 650 called Kiraucassis compete. In this episode, Hugo tells us how he organizes himself for this stage which must last 48 hours maximum. Weather, technique, food, you have to think about everything when you are sailing solo.
Then it's the start with the race committee and the first lengths to reach the clearing buoy. From there, it's the clearance to the next mark. The start of the race is done in light airs, which allows the skipper to rest and perfect his adjustments and navigation.
