Web series / Embark with Hugo for a Mini circuit regatta

Hugo - whom you know as The Sailing Frenchman - has entered the Mini circuit. To obtain his qualification for the Mini Transat 2021, he must accumulate a certain number of miles in the race. He is taking us on board with him for stage 2 of Les Sables les Açores in the Bay of Morlaix, a regatta between Les Sables and Roscoff.

In class Mini 6.50, it is forbidden to have on board any instrument that allows long-distance communication, such as satellite or amateur radio. The weather reports are therefore communicated to the competitors via SSB, every day at 5 pm. It is then up to the skippers to make their weather forecast, a "tedious but formative routine."

For this 2nd stage from Les Sables les Açores to the Bay of Morlaix, between Les Sables and Roscoff, Hugo is in the leading pack. Between the winds, the unexpected gusts, the rain, the dreariness and the fog, you have to be patient... As the aim is above all to finish in order to qualify for the Mini Transat.

Hugo shares with us his race and his adventures until the finish in Roscoff at dawn. With a 10th place in the rankings, nothing is at stake since he is a few minutes from the 9th and only 1 hour 20 minutes from the first. However, the overall standings were decided over the three races.

Once in port, it will be necessary to quickly get the boat back in shape and get ready for the third start, which will be given 48 hours later.
