Web series / Nomad Citizen Sailing: big panic at anchor in Soller

In order to let the big gale announced that evening pass, Nomad Citizen Sailing preferred to stay one more day and night at anchor, before setting off the next day for Minorca. But the night is not going to go as planned at all

In Soller - Majorca - for several days, Daniela, Marvin and their little Tara have to lift anchor towards Minorca. But a strong gale is expected for the night, between 30 and 40 knots. Their anchorage being supposed to be well protected, they decided to extend their stay on the west coast of Majorca by one day, before heading north.

After a day spent enjoying the anchorage and the warmth, the night has finally settled on Soller. And the wind too. At midnight, the crew is still not asleep, just like the neighbors. Everyone is checking their anchor to make sure their boat is safe in 30 knots of wind.

But while everyone is on deck, a large motorboat seems to have lost control and endangers the 6 boats around it. Marvin decides to jump in the dinghy and go to their aid. After asking for help at the marina in Soller, and getting a negative answer, the owners of the boat are at a loss. Their windlass is not working and neither is their bow thruster.

We had to avoid the other boats at all costs and reel in nearly 100 m of chain and a 53 kg anchor by hand. Marvin took care of it, also helpless because of the lack of help from his neighbors. Until he was finally joined by a foreign yachtsman.

After some hectic maneuvers to try to avoid the worst, the motorboat finally left its anchorage to reach the military port of Soller. And Marvin returned to Nomad Citizen, like a savior.

After a terrible night without sleep, the couple cast off in the morning to reach Pollença, in the north of the island, last stop before Menorca. A 5 hour sail that was mainly under motor power, but they were all eager to reach land to enjoy a well-deserved night's rest.
