Web series / Nomad Citizen Sailing : a transatlantic race to slalom between the fishing nets

Nomad Citizen Sailing's crew is having a great time in the Caribbean after a first season in the Mediterranean. To reach the Caribbean, Marvin sailed their Oceanis Clipper 311 with two friends. A transatlantic race that started on a high note, to be discovered on video.

Transatlantic between friends

Based in Lanzarote, in the Canaries, Nomad Citizen Sailing had to cross the Atlantic to continue their nomadic journey. Daniela having given birth to their second child shortly before, she preferred to fly to Guadeloupe with the kids. It is thus in company of two friends that Marvin convoyed their sailboat until the Antilles, a navigation of 3000 miles which took them 21 days.

Preparation of the crossing

Before the start, the boat was taken out of the water for a major refit and a check. The crew then checked the sails and the rigging, studied the weather, restarted the watermaker to be autonomous in water, while planning a back-up with the water tanks. The boat still had to be fuelled, a grab-bag prepared, the engine checked, the hydrovane installed and a final sports session to clear the head before the big crossing.

Smooth sailing

The beginning of the trip did not go as planned. The three men had to juggle between the many fishing nets along the Moroccan coast. Especially since the first days, the navigation was done under engine, the wind being absent.

In conclusion, if the word to summarize the crossing was "stupid weather", the trip left beautiful memories like this meeting with whales.
