Web series / Nomad Citizen Sailing : Men's sailing from Formentera, Balearic Islands

In this new episode, we find Marvin and his friend Loury convoying Nomad Citizen from Formentera, Balearic Islands, to Gibraltar.

As we announced last week, in the previous episode of Nomad Citizen Sailing, Daniela is not present in this new episode. Pregnant with her second child (she has since given birth to a baby boy) and facing a strong seasickness, she preferred to stay on land with their little girl Tara.

It is thus between men and in a rather intense way that takes place this convoying until Gibraltar. Marvin is accompanied by Loury, adventurer and explorer, specialist of survival and extreme expeditions. After the installation of the hydrovane (a speed regulator), the two men leave Formentera under sail. On the program 20 knots of wind and gusts to 22 knots for an average speed of 7 knots and surfing at 9 knots! In short, happiness to start this convoy.

But the wind is getting lighter and it is therefore with the engine that they will have to continue. This forces them to stop at Cabo de Gata, a cape located in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, to fill the fuel tanks. Their reserve is not enough to continue and the wind looks rather light for the days to come.

It is with 10 knots of wind and a speed of 5 knots that this second day of sailing continues (after the night watches and the pit-stop refuel). Marvin took advantage of these calm conditions to work.

At the end of the day, the two men reached Cabo de Gata to let the expected gale pass over Gibraltar: a south-east wind (upwind) of 25 to 30 knots. Not the most pleasant way to sail. They took the opportunity to go ashore to train for the Marathon des Sables that Loury will run soon.
