Web series / When the health crisis catches up with the Clipper Round World Race

After a stop in Subic Bay in the Philippines, the Clipper Round World Race is suspended for 10 months. A decision taken just before casting off for a Pacific crossing. A decision that forces Hugo to reinvent a sequel to his nautical adventures.

Big disappointment for Hugo, second in Halong Bay Vietnam. After changing the route and approaching the Philippines (in place of China), the race is finally suspended for 10 months. All the team members as well as the race staff pack their bags and go home. The boats in the fleet, 70-foot one-design boats, remain at the quayside and Hugo, with another first mate, stays there for 2 months to watch over the boats.

There is a strange atmosphere in this period of uncertainty about the progression of the virus. The days are spent cleaning the boats, doing routine daily checks and undertaking certain repairs or changes on board.

Hugo also takes advantage of this downtime to pass his theory exams on his Yachtmaster Ocean. An exam that he passes by distance with success. From now on, he has to pass the practice, but in this period of confinement it is not possible.

But finally after 2 months, Hugo leaves the Philippines to join France. Indeed, as he told us previously, he plans to take part in the Mini Transat 2021 as a production sailboat. To do this he is aiming for a Maxi 6.50 (the new design by David Raison made at IDBmarine). A new adventure that he plans to share as usual on video.
