Second leg of the round-the-world tour for the crew of Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam skippered by Englishman Josh Stickland. Aboard Hugo, The Sailing Frenchman, is second. This crewed race is a bit special. Indeed, the crew members of the Clipper Round World Race 2019-20 are paying for their place on board.
Sailboats are 70-foot one-designs. The crew consists of 17 people. For this second leg from Punta Del Este to South Africa corresponds to about 18 days at sea. With the South Atlantic crossing and sailing in the 40th South.
After finishing third in the previous leg, the crew (6 of whom were replaced) left the race with a bang.
Especially as the conditions at the start look more like sailing in the trade winds in the Tropics (a little colder) than a descent into the Southern Ocean. But the weather seems to be getting harder as we approach the middle of the Atlantic.
In this episode, Hugo takes the side to present us the posts on board and their activity. This allows a better understanding of navigation on the high seas on a large sailing boat. With the problems of a novice but highly motivated crew.
