Back on the Mini Transat 2021 of Hugo, The Sailing Frenchman. After a week of racing (7 days), about a third of the way through, Hugo takes stock of his supplies and fresh water. He explains how many liters of water he has left to drink and especially how much he has consumed. This calculation is important not to run out, especially since water is used to hydrate the freeze-dried food. This calculation shows that Hugo consumes about 3 liters per day. He estimates that at the end of the journey, if he does not encounter any problems that would slow him down, he will have about 10 liters left. For the moment, at the third of the journey, he does not want to part with these 10 liters which could lighten the boat.
Hugo also shares his weather choices. He is pleasantly surprised to discover that he is in 2nd place in the ranking. But this place puts doubt (rightly) in his mind, because Hugo chose the northern route, the shortest. But he knows that the other competitors close to him in the ranking have decided to take the southern route. According to the weather forecast, he also knows that these competitors have more wind than him. Will the northern route be the right one? He can only doubt and think for a long time without being able to compare his choices with others.
For the moment, the wind is light on his route even if he spots some cumulus clouds indicating future weather changes. But for the moment the ocean is quite flat.
