Web series / Clipper Round the World, experience the start of stage 1 on board a competitor

By taking his camera with him everywhere, Hugo brings us the daily life of the crew of the Clipper Round the Worl, the crewed round the world race that just started in September 2019 from London to Portugal.

Top start for the Clipper Round the World Race! Hugo, who participates in the race as second in command, makes us live it from the inside in video. And this beginning of the first stage is not easy.

If the start is made under the sun by a light and downwind wind, the rest is much more delicate. The 70-foot one-design sailboats must leave the Channel. However, at the beginning of September 2019, the wind is the opposite and we have to tack into the Channel.

The crew, who are leaving for a round-the-world trip, are picked cold. Sailing upwind is much less comfortable and much slower. If the spirit of racing is still present on board, it is also necessary to think about eating and taking care of yourself if you want to last in the long term.

This episode shows here all the Anglo-Saxon rigour on how to lead a crew on a boat: Communication and safety.

Fortunately for the crew the wind remains manageable and even if going to the front beach remains very wet, the conditions are still practicable. Only life on board, especially travelling or even cooking, always requires a lot of energy when everything is tilted and the partitions are used as floors!
