Test / Test of the Aquila 36, a chameleon on two hulls..

We tried the Aquila 36 in the Bay of Canes. Its ability to adapt to many situations makes it a very versatile boat. Walking, short cruises or fishing, everything is possible and always quickly.

Originally from the US market

The Sino-American "Sino Eagle Group" has the particularity of developing catamarans solely for the purpose of propeller propulsion under the name of Aquila Boats. The brand has had a great deal of success across the Atlantic and the range, developed in partnership with the charter company Marine Max, from 32 to 48 feet, is making a name for itself on American charter bases. Some models have even been renamed after the charter company. Thus, the 36 tried today becomes the Marine Max 362.

The 36 has been specially developed for outboard propulsion which, in this size, is a fairly efficient formula in terms of flexibility of use and maintenance. The hulls are designed by J&J Design and their sides are highly optimised. For a slight lift and better handling in curves, a fin connecting the two hulls below the waterline in the middle of the boat is offered as an option, but we were unable to try this configuration.

The exterior design is guided by the desire to have as open a space as possible while being protected when conditions deteriorate. An open version with wind deflector and T-top mounted on hoops, and a sport coupé version with full windscreen are also available. The hard top can then be fitted with a sliding soft top and the pilot house can also be closed at the rear with a removable soft bulkhead. For short cruising, it is possible to have a sliding bay window that completely closes off this space. This last version is called 36 Cruiser.

The two production sites in Hangzhou, south of Shanghai, total more than 110,000 m² and offer mastery of composites, including wet lamination and resin infusion moulding. The group is one of the world leaders in the field of composite materials and supplies a whole range of leisure products, such as kayaks and surfboards, as well as giant wind turbines and aircraft. It holds several patents in prepreg moulding technologies that ensure a stronger, stiffer and lighter end product.
