Web series / Team RockIt: First long double race on the Myth of Malham

After a first training regatta that was not very successful, Dee Caffari and Shirley Robertson are taking their Sun Fast 3300 to a longer race, the Myth of Malham. They will be working with a professional trainer to improve the crew's performance in this offshore race.

A coach to help the duo progress

With their final goal of the Round Britain and Ireland in mind, sailors Dee Caffari and Shirley Robertson continue their preparation on land and on board their Sun Fast 3300. After a first race that left them unsatisfied, they called in a professional coach. Nigel King is tasked with making the most of each of their Olympic sailing and ocean racing experiences. During these preparation sails, he emphasizes communication and observation of maneuvers. He encourages the sailors to take a step back from the transom and rest to manage the races in their program as they get longer.

The Myth of Malham, from Cowes to Eddystone

A new leg of the 2022 season, Team RockIt's Sun Fast 3300 will line up at the start of the British classic Myth of Malham. The race takes boats from the Isle of Cowes to the Eddystone Lighthouse off the coast of British Cornwall and back, leaving the famous mark to port.

After a successful start to the race and a nice first day downwind under spinnaker, and a good first night, the two women were well placed when it was time to head east again. Unfortunately, the management of the weather transition, although well planned, did not go as planned. They lost places to the other Sun Fast 3300s and finished in 11th place.

There is still work to be done to compete in a high level doubles fleet.
