Web series / Team RockIt : Work on the rigging and the cohesion of the crew on Cowes Saint-Malo

Sailors Shirley Robertson and Dee Caffari continue to share videos of their preparation for the Round Britain and Ireland Race. Between sailing with North Sails to fine-tune the Sun Fast 3300's wardrobe and participating in Cowes Saint-Malo, the results are not always there, but the progress continues.

Find the right mast and sail setting

During their previous sailing trips, professional skippers Shirley Robertson and Dee Caffari have been working to optimize their Sun Fast 3300 for the double-handed round the British Isles race. Among the last big technical points, the rigging is a crucial subject. Shirley went on an offshore trip with the designers from North Sails, who explained to us the specific choices they had made in view of the highly competitive race in which the sailors would be participating.

Sailing at night

But the preparation is also human. While Dee Caffari is used to sailing offshore for long periods of time, Shirley, who comes from a light sailing background, is less used to sailing at night in a regatta. The two women therefore set off to train around the Isle of Wight, for a night circumnavigation.

Cowes Saint-Malo

Then it's a classic that is on the calendar of Team RockIt: Cowes Saint-Malo. Engaged in IRC2, they are comparable to many Sun Fast 3300. The edition is marked by light winds. As in their previous race, they are gaining experience, but Dee and Shirley are frustrated with the result. The preparation for the Round Britain and Ireland Race is not over if they want to reach their goal!
