Test / Merry Fisher 1295 Fly, a 40-foot flyboat concept with three outboards

Following the success of the Merry Fischer 1095, Jeanneau's first large outboard unit, the manufacturer has set its sights even higher with the launch of the Merry Fisher 1295 Fly. This versatile model, dedicated to family cruising, has been specially designed to accommodate three 300 hp outboard engines. Let's discover the concept and program of this model in the first part of our test.

A trend towards outboard propulsion for large vessels

In 2017, Jeanneau launched the Merry Fisher 1095 followed by a flybridge version in 2019. These first large outboard-powered cruisers were an immediate success, with over 1,000 MF 1095 units sold by 2022. It has to be said that the growing demand for large outboards has been a trend in recent years, particularly in the United States, a key market for the Vendée-based shipyard.

The manufacturer then set itself the crazy challenge of developing a larger model, a 40-foot speedboat, still powered by an outboard motor. This is the Merry Fisher 1295 Fly, the largest model in the range, with an overall length of 12.56 meters. It was developed in-house by Jeanneau in collaboration with Studio Design Centowski & Denert.

Visit Merry Fisher 1295 Fly has a new hull, entirely designed and optimized for outboard propulsion. But not just any outboard: three 300-hp Yamaha engines, the heart of the market range. The aim was to obtain a boat that glides quickly, at around 18 knots. Although the three 300 hp outboard motors give it a maximum power output of 38 knots, the cruising speed of the Merry Fisher 1295 is more likely to be between 20 and 22 knots.

More exterior space and interior volume

Thanks to its outboard propulsion system, Jeanneau has decentralized the motorization to the stern, thus gaining interior and cockpit volume. Two large 600-liter fuel tanks, also located on the sides, provide additional interior space.

Thanks to this gain in space, the Merry Fisher 1295 Fly offers three cabins, two bathrooms and, above all, three large outdoor living areas, including a real bow cockpit.

Versatile units for family cruising

As a reminder, the Merry Fisher range comprises 8 models from 5.66 m to 12.56 m, all outboard-powered for family use. Their program is one of versatility, for a day at sea enjoying fishing or water sports, a short coastal cruise with the family, or simply a weekend at anchor.

The Merry Fisher 1095 fits well into the range, ticking all the boxes expected of these units. Versatility is the order of the day, with sunbathing and relaxation areas, as well as equipment suitable for both fishing and water sports, such as the coupe door on the port side or the bathing platform that folds out on the starboard side, ideal for inflating a paddle or taking a dip. The large flybridge is ideal for sailing in sunny conditions, while the second interior helm station is ideal for sailing in rainy or cooler weather, particularly in Scandinavia. The cosy, well-appointed interior is ideal for longer voyages, from port to port or from anchorage to anchorage.
