The Oceanis 42 takes over from the Oceanis 40.1 , a model launched in 2020. Designed by Marc Lombard Yacht Design for the hull and by Nauta Design for the deck and interior layout, this 12.86-meter sailboat retains the cruising focus of the line while incorporating several improvements in ergonomics, space, and amenities.
A more spacious cockpit and two transom configurations
The most noticeable change is in the cockpit. Beneteau reports a 12% increase in floor space and a 10% increase in seating area compared to the Oceanis 40.1.
The transom is available in two versions. The first features an open platform that provides direct access to the water while at anchor. The second includes a fixed aft bench seat that increases seating capacity while making the cockpit safer during navigation.
Both helm stations feature the same ergonomic design already used on the Oceanis 47 and 52, with consoles that house the main navigation instruments and engine controls.
An optimized hull and a more powerful sail plan
The naval architecture is by Marc Lombard Yacht Design. Without changing the boat's positioning, Beneteau has announced an increase in sail area.
The mast, equipped with a furling mainsail, gains 60 cm in height. The versions with a conventional or Performance mainsail benefit from a 30-cm increase in length. This upgrade increases the available sail area while maintaining a cruising-oriented design.
The Oceanis 42 is available in two draft options. The long version has a draft of 2.25 m, while the short version has a draft of 1.68 m to facilitate access to shallow waters.
A brighter interior and more layout options
Inside, the changes mainly involve lighting and modularity. The hull windows leading to the saloon and cabins now have a surface area 2.5 times larger than that of the previous model. The roof windows have also been enlarged to let in more natural light.
The shipyard offers five layout configurations, ranging from a two-cabin version with one bathroom to a four-cabin version with two bathrooms designed for the charter market.
Two kitchen layouts are available. The first features an L-shaped kitchen located at the bottom of the staircase. The second features a linear kitchen with a larger countertop.
A kitchen designed for long voyages
The galley retains its traditional layout near the companionway to make it easier to use when the boat is sailing with a list.
Beneteau reports a refrigeration capacity of 215 liters, a substantial volume for this class of sailboats. The storage spaces, the centralization of the electrical controls, and the inclusion of a dedicated office area in the saloon reflect a focus on functionality for crews living aboard for several weeks.

The Oceanis 42 has an overall length of 12.86 m and a beam of 4.23 m. Its light displacement is listed at 7,985 kg.
The fuel tank holds 195 liters, and the fresh water capacity is 235 liters. The standard engine produces 45 ch.
In terms of sails, the boat is equipped with a classic mainsail measuring 45.1 m², a 35.6 m² furling genoa, and a 58.3 m² Code 0. It is certified in CE Category A for ten people.
