An aft cockpit to enjoy open-air sailing
As presented in the first part of this review, the XO DFNDR 8 is a versatile crossover. Despite its aluminum body and rugged, adventurous look, it can be used for a variety of purposes.
Entry aboard is via the two bathing skirts flanking the engine. The fairly narrow cockpit features a double bench seat with a forward-facing tilting backrest for sailing out to sea or watching over a water-sports enthusiast. A swim ladder on the starboard skirt is dedicated to bathing. On the roof, a rack with four rod holders will appeal to fishermen.

A glazed wheelhouse with a central passageway for on-board movement
The full-width wheelhouse is closed at the rear by a plastic cover, which can be replaced, as on our test model, by a sliding door. The DFNDR 8 can also be transformed into a T-top boat by removing the side windows.
Access on board is via a central passage linking the bow to the stern. Somewhat narrow, you'll have to sit on the bench seats to let guests through. As the side passageways are really narrow, they're best used at anchor or when maneuvering in port. Although it can be completely enclosed, the wheelhouse is still bright and airy, thanks to its full glazing. There are two side bench seats on each side, with ample storage space underneath, as well as a drawer refrigerator. The layout is arranged on several levels, with steps for entering and exiting the bow and stern, as well as for accessing the interior bench seating.

A comfortable cockpit
The space converts into a sleeping area for two people. A total of 8 people can board this Category C-approved model. On the bow, the port side console provides access to a toilet with sufficient headroom. A wrap-around passenger seat is available for the co-pilot, and is removable. To starboard, the cockpit is quite spacious, with room for a large electronic display. All equipment is close at hand and easily accessible, like the throttle lever. A suspension seat ensures a comfortable driving position.

A front beach for relaxation
Access to the foredeck is via a central opening in the fender and the opening of a small door. You can install a sunbed or use the space for fishing. With side and console backrests and cup holders, the space is ideal for relaxation. The anchor locker forward is framed by an imposing balcony. Finally, there's a large storage locker for your nautical gear.
