Test / Bénéteau Gran Turismo 36, easy and fun to navigate

We tried the Gran Turismo 36 in an inboard version. Very easy to use, it offers great performance with a safe and fun feeling

Our Gran Turismo was equipped with the most powerful inboard engine. The two new 300 hp Volvo D4 sub-base mounted engine blocks fit well in the well soundproofed engine compartment. When leaving the dock, the fenders are stowed in the front trunk, which has become very large with its rectangular shape, and under the seats in convenient recesses that do not require the seats to be lifted.

Good steering efficiency

The cockpit is very pleasant. Two benches allow four people to sit frontally, giving passengers the opportunity to take part in the developments and share the pilot's sensations. We quickly set sail and begin our speed tests. Our boat is equipped with the Zipwake automatic trim system, one less trim to worry about. Only 10 seconds are needed to get off the water and about 25 to reach the maximum speed of 32 knots, gives us an idea of the playful character of the boat. Served well by precise steering, course changes quickly become a game, as the internally developed hull holds on well. Back at cruising speed of 24 knots, the forward sunbathing remains very frequent and the good stability does not generate any palpable apprehension on board. Visibility at the cockpit is very good, with or without the roof open, avoiding any stress, always to be avoided during your holidays.

An autonomy for cruising

His good skills make it possible to lengthen the stride on a cruise. The trawler's pace is not his cup of tea and at around 10 knots the noise tells us that the boat is pushing water and consumption is affected. With its hull planing, it is rather necessary to have the boat up and depending on the state of the sea, a low cruising speed at 18 knots and a high at 24 knots, with a range of 240 miles are very convincing to allow beautiful cruises. Once in port, control with the joystick decompresses the fear of the docking manoeuvre which becomes accessible to a larger number of people.
