Test / Quarken 27, the same shell for three different versions

Finnish shipyard Quarken has entered the dayboat and weekender market with the launch of the Quarken 27, to be presented in open and T-Top versions in 2021, followed by a cabin model in 2022. With its sleek design and high-performance hull, the Quarken concept is intended to be versatile. Let's discover the program and concept of this 8.35 m hull in this first part of our test.

A shipyard born of the nautical experience of three men

Quarken is a Finnish shipyard to be launched in 2021. At its helm are three men. Osmo Roukala has over 40 years' experience in the nautical industry and boat design. He has worked for Finnmaster, Husky and Grandezza. Antero Sundberg has extensive experience in management, sales and networking within the marine industry. He has worked with several well-known brands, including Yamaha, Yamarin, Finnmaster, Grandezza and Saxdor. Jussi Hurskainen, also owner of Idis Design Ltd, is a specialist in industrial and strategic design. In addition to Idis Design Ltd, the team collaborates with R2 Marine Ltd and has established an exclusive partnership with Yamaha for the motorization of these models. This choice is explained by the importance of the dealer network and the services offered throughout the world.

Boats with a proven track record

Quarken is the English translation of the word Kvarken, which refers to the northernmost arm of the Baltic Sea, also known as the Gulf of Bothnia. The yard is located in Kokkola, Finland, a region renowned for its long tradition of boatbuilding. The location also enables sea trials to be carried out in difficult conditions.

A first model available in three versions

The Quarken 27 is the shipyard's first model, and comes in three versions on the same 8.35 m hull. The Open version is agile and sporty, the T-Top version offers protection thanks to its fiberglass top, while the Cabin version provides comfortable warmth. All boats have a similar configuration from console to bow. The Quarken 27 is well equipped as standard, with quality materials, but it also offers an extensive list of options.

Nordic design for a variety of navigation programs

The design is pure and simple, inspired by pure Nordic style. All boats feature a double-step hull for fast planning. The fiberglass construction is made in Finland, with a first layer of vinylester to prevent osmosis.

With its comfortable deck layout and small cabin, the open and T-Top versions of the Quarken 27 are more suited to day or weekend coastal cruising on sunny days. The well-protected Cabin version extends the range of uses. With a length of 8 m, this model is ideal for beginners, families and thrill-seekers alike. Its agile, high-performance hull exceeds 40 knots, even in Cabin version.
