Test / Quarken 27, a test that confirms the boat's sporty, fun and agile character

In part 3 of this Quarken 27 test, we focus on the Quarken 27 T-Top, which we tested in the Baltic Sea, in the heart of the Archipelago, on the west coast of Finland. Whether you're a sportsman or a family man, the Quarken 27 adapts to your schedule.

A boat designed around a 300-hp Yamaha

We tested the Quarken 27 T-Top in mid-June. In the heart of the Finnish archipelago, in the southwest of the country, the Baltic Sea was quite sheltered and relatively flat during our test. In a few places, we came across a slight chop, but it was mainly by surfing in the wake of the large fleet that we were able to check out the Quarken 27's hull behavior in rougher seas. Our model is powered by a 300 hp Yamaha V6 4.2 L, as the shipyard has signed an exclusive distribution partnership with the engine manufacturer. The Quarken 27 was designed for this power. The fuel tank capacity is 300 L.

An ergonomic dashboard

Although summer is just around the corner, foulies are still the order of the day in Finland. The cockpit is well thought-out, with a comfortable driving position for both pilot and co-pilot. The wrap-around seats have flip-up cushions and footrests for a snug ride. A handrail on the dashboard also secures the co-pilot's high-speed navigation. A single 12-inch Garmin display is fitted as standard, with a second one available as part of the Premium package.

A playful hull that's easy to handle

We engage the throttle. The Quarken 27 T-Top is at ease, lifting off in 5 seconds and reaching 30 knots in just 10 seconds. Agile, despite the narrow beam, the model stays in line, and doesn't sail with its nose up. Its double-step hull gives it stability in bends and power in a straight line. It may have a tendency to slide, but remains easy to control and proves to be a real player. At 5,700 rpm, it reaches a top speed of 44 knots, with fuel consumption of 104 L/h.

Trim tabs are welcome on this narrow hull to maintain stability, although even in the wake of other boats, the Quarken retains its roadholding and rides waves relatively well. The electric power steering also makes for easy sailing, while the bow thruster is useful for maneuvering this type of deep-V boat.

In terms of fuel consumption, the most economical speed is 3,500 rpm, with a speed of 23.7 knots and fuel consumption of 1.4 L/mile, giving a range of around 200 miles.

This test confirms the boat's fun program, with an exhilarating top speed and good handling. For families, we'd recommend a cruising speed of around 20 knots, for coastal cruising and anchoring.
