Test / Bayliner V20, one hull for two engines

How do you replace a best sailer? Wider and more modern, the Bayiner V20 is a natural choice, with convincing arguments in favor of its big brother, the VR5.

The Bayliner V20 (outboard version) or V20i (inboard version) replaces the VR5 (also available in 2 versions). In order to standardize production, Bayliner has decided to revert to naming boats in feet. The V20 thus measures 20 feet, or 6.16 m. This length remains unchanged between the old and new models. On the other hand, the V20 has grown in width: + 12 cm. The bowrider is now 2.59 m wide, which means it can be transported without special authorization, but also increases the space on board.

A pointed bow

What's more, this gain in width enabled the in-house designer to abandon the VR5's square bow. Indeed, this architectural gesture ensured greater space in the forepeak, as the square increased the size of the bench seats. Now back to a more classic V shape, but above all much more aesthetically pleasing, the V20 nonetheless boasts the same bowrider space as its predecessor.

Curves for the eyes

For the occasion, the boat's lines have also gained in elegant curves. The boat's gunwale ends at the stern in a beautifully rounded shape, as does the upper strake, which curves finely into the planking. Even the side windshield is fitted with a finely curved black guard. The V20 looks good wherever you look.

Other details, such as the increased fuel capacity (up to 170 liters), also make navigation more comfortable, with greater range.

The benefits of globalization

This Bayliner is produced in the Group's American factory, as well as in Portugal. In order to offer aggressive pricing, all boats, whatever their origin, feature the same build quality and accessories. The list of options is no longer differentiated between continents, and boats are now strictly identical. This centralization of purchasing results in economies of scale, which are strongly reflected in the final price for the consumer. A good point!
