La Viviacia, a strip planking Beg-Meil under construction

The construction of Lucas' Beg-Meil restarts in his workshop after a pause. Despite this pause, the craftsman shows us the gestures to build this type of boat in strip planking

A boat construction that takes its time!

Building a boat takes time. Any amateur builder will tell you that. And it's not Lucas who will contradict you. His project to build a 4.80 m rowing sail, a small boat, he launched in 2018. Today in 2022, he only continues to edge the hull

This project has been thwarted by many obstacles. Some were deliberate, such as the desire to develop handmade woodworking, others were more sudden, such as a move, the construction of a workshop or a growing family.

A ship's planking that moves forward

However, the Vivacia's construction site, as the boat will be called once it sails, remains in the mind of this manual worker, a lover of wood and wood chips. And it is always with great precision and mastery that he assembles the battens that will form the hull.

Each batten requires gluing. Lucas progresses batten by batten, working on each side of the boat, so as not to deform the hull. He also has to deal with a slightly high construction site, which requires adaptation now that he is attacking the bottom of the hull.

Watching him work, with method and care, remains a great pleasure. Seeing the hull gradually unveil itself is also pleasant. Can't wait for the next part
