Web series / How to make wooden pulleys?

While Lucas continues the amateur construction of his Beg-Meil, he pauses in the construction of the hull and explains how he will manufacture part of the fittings: the pulleys.

The video (quite long) explains in detail the construction of wooden pulleys. Here is some additional information for amateurs who would like to get into this kind of realization.

To make his pulleys, Lucas uses ash wood. He would have preferred elm, the wood used at the time for the pulleys, but this species has almost disappeared today. The wooden parts are assembled with polyurethane glue (PU glue). This glue expands and does not need to be pressed hard.

For accessories, Lucas was purchased online from toplicht.de, a specialist supplier of vintage accessories. To Lucas' despair, the French shops are not busy enough with a rather complete catalogue.

Finally on the timing side, Lucas announces that it took him 4 hours to make the first pulley (all by hand!), but that he thinks he can reduce this working time to 2 hours for the following ones. And probably less if he uses electric tools, which he refuses to do at most..
