Web series / The Vivacia takes shape, gluing the planks together

How to glue the planking slats when the hull is getting round? Lucas who builds his Beg Meil by hand gives us a tip for gluing. A specific press that will be of great help to him

We had left the La Vivacia yard more than 6 months ago. Lucas, who undertook the construction of this boat in his garage, has not been out of work during this period. Quite the contrary! He took the time to have a second child, to move his family and above all (for the part that interests us) to build himself a new workshop.

Thus this canoe designed by François Vivier, the Beg Meil, is an assembly of Sipo slats glued together. Lucas, a lover of beautiful wooden creations, adjusts them one by one to limit the glue and ensure a perfect joint. He explains in this video how he found a specific press that allows him to save time in his glues.

But before that, the new workshop gave him some perspective. And with it, the possibility to see the alignment of the keel, daggerboard well and bow. And alas, all this is not too straight. The bow has been glued at an angle. The taste for perfection forces Lucas to go back to work, sawing off the glues already made. Luckily everything is (almost) in order and La Vivacia will have a bow in the axis.

The assembly of the planking slats continues and the boat gradually takes shape. But new projects are grafted around Lucas' passion for handcrafted woodwork. So many novelties that should not make the construction go faster..
