Readers of Bateaux.com have the chance to follow the construction of a rowing sail. Lucas undertook this Beg-Meil project according to François Vivier's plans. In this episode, no chisel, saw or plane, just a technical and financial point.
The quality of the François Vivier plans
Indeed, before embarking on this project that Lucas estimates to be 3 years old, our amateur checked everywhere to find the right model to manufacture. He finally chose a plan by architect François Vivier from among the 49 models presented in the catalogue. And he doesn't regret it!
The quality of the construction guides and the richness of the documentation in addition to the accuracy of the plans were a good choice. The affordable price of all this bundle is really worth the cost before embarking on such an adventure.
About 4000 ? for a Beg-Meil
Lucas then explains what the budget is to build a rowing sail of this size. He details it like this:
- 1200 ? of solid wood
- 400 ? of plywood
- 400 ? of resin and fabric
- 1000 ? of fittings
- 1000 ? for a used trailer
These are price estimates. But as our amateur builder says, since construction takes several years, the unexpected will be smoothed over time. Apart from the initial down payment of about 2000 ? (for CP and wood), the rest will be invested as the project progresses.
