Test / Pricing and alternatives of the Solaris 57 Lobster, the price of the class

The Solaris 57 Power is a very successful lobster boat. Its elegant and timeless lines hide an uncommon modernity and sophistication. This extreme quality comes at a cost, like any coveted object.

The Solaris 57 Power is invoiced with 600 hp Volvo IPS 800s at a price of 1,496,000 euros excluding VAT. With Volvo IPS 950s (735 hp) the price is 63,000 euros plus VAT and this includes the automatic trim system. It is a consequent tariff, but the quality of the manufacture in fiberglass and carbon under infusion of vinylester is completely irreproachable and gives uncommon sensations on the water. Some details such as the stern covers to hide the deck fittings or the side door show the degree of sophistication and finish. To obtain a very aesthetic and functional result, the metallic hull and roof paint, the teak deck, the tilting bulwark and the hydraulic bathing ladder have to be used.

Options to match

On this type of very luxurious units, the options catalogue is ultra-complete, as it should be. With all the technical comfort equipment: generator set, household appliances, electronics, audio... the boat in our test was worth 1,890,600 euros excluding VAT. But you can still mount the cursor with spring bedding, luxurious crockery and magnificent sea oak woodwork. And for ultimate comfort at anchor, a Seakeeper gyro-stabilizer is also in the catalogue. An all options boat will peak at more than 2 million euros (excl. VAT), but the pleasure of such a machine is priceless and the boat really stands out from the crowd.

What about the competition?

In these price ranges, we are in a niche market for a clientele of aesthetes who love haute couture. Nevertheless, despite the withdrawal of Mochi Craft, which produced the Dolphin, there are nevertheless some protagonists who are making a name for themselves in this thin segment. To all credit, the famous American brand Hinckley has never left this market, and continues to update models that give pride of place to varnished mahogany and immaculate navy blue hulls like the Talaria 55 MKII, but made from carbon sandwich and kevlar under infusion. The Zeelander brand made a remarkable entry into this positioning a few years ago with a range from 44 to 72 feet. Its Z 55 has the particularity of having a garage with a side tender and a stern that tilts into a huge bathing platform. Its slightly more classic style corresponds well to the American market. Austin Parker on its side has two ranges on the same concept. One called Ibiza with open models and the other called Mahon whose 52 is comparable to the Solaris with a more modern interior, but with less functionality.
