Test / Navigation and Program Solaris 57 Lobster, power and sobriety

We tried the Solaris 57 Power. This latest generation lobster boat has amazing marine qualities. Power and flexibility at all levels in a more than serene atmosphere

In order to allow a williams 285 tender to find room in the garage and also to balance the weights, the two Volvo IPS 950 735 hp (IPS 800 600 hp as standard) have been centred, with the transmission to the IPS, towards the rear, being via two large shafts. The installation of the engine hold is clinical and the soundproofing is pushed as on very large yachts, it is a trademark at Solaris even on sailing yachts. An automatic trim system is included on this engine as well as the joystick for port manoeuvres. A dynamic positioning system is also available at extra cost. The wheelhouse is equipped with a very thick but automated side door and the leather bench seat is very comfortable for two people, nothing to complain about. The Garmin instrumentation is located on a large carbon and leather console, and visibility is good, just a little hindered by an equally thick windshield pillar.

A moment of happiness

As soon as we get out of the old port, very crowded at the end of the afternoon, we set course for the Esterel in a reasonable chop. In less than ten seconds, the twenty knots are reached and the power continues to be distilled relentlessly up to 35 knots. The boat sails flat and we don't feel the impact of the waves, which are literally breaking, at all throughout our test. The noise is almost absent, no vibrations or crackling are felt and confirm the robust construction of the hull with many reinforcements. The hydraulic steering is smooth and precise, the supports are straightforward in curves and turns, and the impression of dominating the elements is omnipresent. It must be said that the 23 light tons are there to impose and they ideally serve the magnificent design of this surprising hull, which does not knock, does not wet and makes you want, comfortably seated in your chair, to go cruising without further delay.

Unexpected sobriety

This gliding hull, capable of sustaining a very high average, can also play the trawler and at 10 or 12 knots it does not push water. The marine qualities make it possible to envisage deep-sea navigation in complete peace of mind. This mix of performance in the context of absolute comfort is rare enough to be reported, but a surprise still awaits us when we look at our readings: consumption at a speed of 12.5 knots is only 60 l/hour and at 20 knots 120 l/hour, which is very reasonable and allows you to cover 360 miles in 18 hours and at 30 knots you can still cover more than 300 miles.
