You had to make a choice, choose an angle. Emmanuel Van Deth made one. This writer journalist - who collaborates with Bateaux.com - has decided to present a model for each of the last 50 years.
A model launched this year. That leaves some holes as the absence of Muscadet for example, born before 1965, which however strongly marked the pleasure craft. In the same way some years were flourishing in new models what obliges the author to enumerate in the form of a list the other striking models.
This book draws portraits on 2 to 4 pages of sailboats. A beautiful description of the boat with its technical data sheet and line illustrations (signed Cyril Richard) gives a good overview of the model.
And as Emmanuel during his career as a journalist has been able to try all these models, he brings a critical eye on the marine behaviour and the finishes of the boat.
A stroll through the pages of this beautiful book allows you to relive 50 years of sailing yachting production. Here and there we find models that we have necessarily crossed in a port or at anchor.
This enumeration is punctuated by pages leaving the floor to site managers who evoke these"hours of pleasure" with anecdotes and production details.
The book begins with the Jeanneau Alizé, one of the first cruisers built in polyester in 1965, and ends with the Revolution 29 launched in 2015 with its strange round bow from the scow hulls. Great figures like the Arpège or Louisiana catamarans are not forgotten.
