A very poetic adventure comic strip

The Port of the Lost Seamen

Le Port des Marins Perdus offers the reader a great adventure novel in the pure Stevenson tradition. Simple drawings supported by a romantic story.

Some comics don't look good at first glance. But when you read them, you enter their universe and you are gently carried away by their waves. "Lost Sailors' Harbor" had that effect on me. At first glance, I wasn't attracted by the black and white pencil drawings, not very detailed and rather rough.

But quickly the story of this child found on a beach who only remembers his first name, intrigues. Where did he come from? Why is he so erudite? Where does his nautical skills come from?

For the story takes place at 19 e century between England and the colonial seas. We sail on royal ships between Royal and Merchant. The authors take us round Cape Horn in headwinds and set sails on all the seas.

But behind this search for identity lies a very poetic book that uses the writings of English authors to support this quest. It is interesting to note that the authors Teresa Radice and Stefano Turconi are Italian, the texts are English and the whole thing is translated into French... But this language game does not hinder the story and the 320 pages of this big and long comic strip are swallowed without breathing.
