Test / Sailing test of the Windy 34, no need for the maximum motorization!

Single or twin engine, the Windy 34 is available with inboard and diesel engines. We have seen in our tests that even with its smaller power, the Windy 34 offers great fun for its crew.

After having discovered the facilities of the Windy 34 and well judged the quality of the finishes, we have carried out sea trials of this sport cruiser. The tests took place with the smallest engine of this model. Our test boat was equipped with a 440-horsepower, single-engine Volvo D6, a 6-cylinder diesel with Z-Drive propulsion.

From 440 horsepower to 2 x 440 horsepower

All the engines offered are diesel, always with Volvo Penta engines. They range from 1 to 2 x 440 horsepower, through 2 x 320 horsepower and 2 x 400 horsepower. With the strongest engine, the shipyard announces maximum speeds of 54 knots!

A deep V hull

We readily believe in these performances, because the hull that we tried at the bottom of the bay of Cannes has a remarkable passage. The pronounced V at the front ensures a behavior without reproach. The quality of manufacture also plays its role here. No vibration, very low noise level, a feeling of solidity offer to the crew a feeling of invulnerability. All this is enhanced by the comfort of an electric steering and automatic flaps.

36 knots with 440 horsepower

Taking the helm of this Windy is a real pleasure. You don't need to try it at full power to see that this boat works wonders at sea. With the 440 horsepower single engine, we reached a top speed of 36 knots with 6 passengers on board. With 87 liters/hour at full throttle, the consumption remains very reasonable. But you will have to look for a cruising speed around 25 knots, at 3000 rpm and 59 l/h, to sail fast and far.
