Test / Windy 34, a concept on the border with the yacht

New model 2023 for the Swedish shipyard Windy, the 34 Alizé completes the sport cruiser range. An elegant model with an irreproachable quality of manufacture, of which we present you the concept in this 1st part of our test.

New models are rare at Windy. This Swedish shipyard, which has been producing powerboats since 1966, claims that all its models have impeccable seaworthiness and top quality workmanship. We dive into the Windy 34 for this test.

A design by Espen Øino

The arrival of the Windy 34 Alizé follows in the footsteps of its big brother, the Windy 37 Shamal. These two units, apart from a difference in hull length, are similar. They both come from the drawing board of the designer Espen Øino. Based in Monaco, this famous designer works mainly on megayacht projects. And yet, his pencil stroke brings a real plus to the timeless line of the Windy range.

The little brother of Windy 37

Windy offers a range of sport cruisers from 27 to 40 feet with now 6 models. The Windy 34 Alizé fills the gap between the 32 and 37 feet. Like the 37, also designed by Espen Øino, the silhouette is very taut with the integration of portholes that serve the design as much as they contribute to the luminosity in the cabin. In profile, the boat's lines all come together in a sort of point forward and end at the stern almost at water level. It's simple, fluid, but devilishly effective. This silhouette exudes both a certain timeless classicism and a sense of power. The Windy 34 Alizé must sail well, its aggressive silhouette proves it!

A high-end finish

It is especially on the finishing side that the Windy 34 stands out. We know the reputation of Scandinavian constructions, the Windy 34 does not stand out in this universe. In addition to the materials used for the upholstery for example, it is also in the construction without any play or vibration during navigation, and in the soundproofing of the engine hold that we understand that the Windy 34 plays in the court of the luxurious boats.

A very seaworthy boat

We also appreciate the clever tricks that demonstrate the shipyard's marine know-how. The trunk with spaces for fenders is a good example. The space to completely hide the bimini when you don't want to install it is another. The XXL size of the bathroom completes the list.

Sailing on a Windy is an experience that does not leave one indifferent. It is probably necessary to have owned several boats to judge the quality of construction and the pleasure of sailing in order to adopt the concept.
