Web series / When a challenge between friends leads to an Atlantic crossing in a Pogo 12.50

The series Pretenders to the Atlantic takes us on a transatlantic sailing trip with a crew of friends in a report with remarkable video quality. Quentin Mayerat, who initiated the project, tells us more about its genesis, on the occasion of the first episode.

From learning to sail on Lake Geneva to a transatlantic race

The Atlantic Pretenders project begins with a challenge between two young Swiss friends. One of them, our colleague Quentin Mayerat from the magazine Skippers, introduces the other, his friend Charly, to the pleasures of sailing. The first tacks on Lake Geneva seduced him and he developed a taste for sailing. " He told me: in 2 years we will go around the world together. I didn't think he was serious. A year later, he told me that he had informed his employers that we were going on a trip the following year. I finally explained to him that it was complicated, but that maybe we could start with a Transat "explains Quentin.

A team of friends for a human transat

As you can see from the first pictures, of a remarkable quality, this transatlantic race is above all a human adventure. An agreement is found with the charter company Open Sail to sail on a Pogo 12.50. A crew was formed around Quentin's friends. " Fabienne is a crew member with whom I have sailed and learned a lot. My cousin Mathieu also with whom I sailed as a family. But also people with little experience of sailing, because I like to share this passion. Like with Christopher, a reporter who has done incredible things. When you have crossed the Iran-Iraq border on foot with smugglers, you can cross the Atlantic! "Quentin laughs.

Departure from La Rochelle to Spain

In the end, the project resulted in 3 months of travel and 88 days at sea. The talent of the cameraman, Christopher Shand, transforms it into 10 episodes with a nice atmosphere and high quality images.

In this first episode, he takes us to La Rochelle, at the dawn of a new confinement, towards Spain. Each crew member shares his expectations and the first tacks under spinnaker in the Charente channels are promising...
