Web series / A crew put to the test by the upwind crossing of the Bay of Biscay

After the presentations, it was time for the first sailing session for the Atlantic Pretenders. Between the discovery of the roughness of upwind sailing in strong winds and the first technical difficulties, this second episode is still based on the quality of the images.

The discovery of the near ocean

Our crew of 6 Atlantic Pretenders, met during the 1st episode, has now cast off from La Rochelle. And the least we can say is that the conditions are quickly proving to be tough, with a strong westerly wind and a sea that makes the Pogo 12.50 slam upwind in the waves. For the neophytes, the transition is hard and the testimonies combined with the images of the interior of a wet sailboat will not fail to evoke memories for the sailors who have already done this type of crossing. Rare in this type of reportage, the images of night maneuvers on a cruising sailboat are also a reflection of what many sailors experience at sea.

The boat sailing at a good speed seen from a drone nevertheless delivers a magnificent show, sitting in his sofa!

Doldrums are not without risk for the boat

As they approached the Spanish coast, the wind dropped temporarily. The crew finally realizes that, even when the cruise is having fun, it can take risks! A fishing line that drags, a boat that goes backwards and she quickly finds herself in the propeller. Without engine, with a weak wind and current near the rocks, the situation is not comfortable

Sheltered in the harbor

Over a drink at the Bar du Pueblo in A Coruña, it's time to take stock of this first stage. Indeed, a storm saw fit to block the road to the Canary Islands and the images taken in the bay, with end-of-the-world lights, remind us that it is not good to be on the water in the vicinity of Cape Finisterre when the gale comes.

We will have to wait for the next episode to taste the sun of the Spanish archipelago!

Series supported by the Swiss Radio Television (RTS) and the magazine Skippers.
