Preparing for a long-distance sail involves much more than choosing a boat or a route. Understanding the weather, mastering routing tools and anticipating safety situations are just some of the skills needed to sail serenely. This is precisely the aim of the day organized by Sillage Nautisme on Saturday March 14 at Port Camargue.
The dealership invites yachtsmen to take part in a workshop devoted to the practical aspects of ocean sailing. A sailor's testimonial, a technical presentation and the discovery of routing software will punctuate the day.
An Atlantic crossing told by a family crew
The morning will start at 9:30 with a particularly concrete feedback. One of the dealership's customers will recount his family's Atlantic crossing last year aboard a Nautitech Open 40 catamaran.
For one hour, the crew will review the various stages of this oceanic navigation. Preparing the boat, organizing life on board, managing the weather and choosing the right route will all be discussed. This type of testimonial often allows us to go further than just cruise stories. The successes, but also the difficulties encountered, are a valuable source of information for sailors planning their first transatlantic voyage.
Safran de secours with Bernard Mallaret
The second talk of the morning will be given by Bernard Mallaret, navigator and specialist in safety at sea.
His work will focus on the X-Rudder, an emergency rudder system designed to maintain a boat's steering capability in the event of damage to the main rudder. This type of equipment is of particular interest to offshore sailors, where autonomy and on-board repair capability are essential.
Discover Avalon routing software
The afternoon will be devoted to digital route preparation tools. From 2 to 4 pm, Philippe Joret will present the Avalon routing software, which he developed himself. This type of program calculates an optimal route based on weather forecasts, boat characteristics and navigation objectives.
A day to gain autonomy at sea
Sillage Nautisme's aim is to provide a practical workshop for sailors who want to improve their sailing skills. The topics covered - weather, routing and safety - are directly relevant to the preparation of offshore sailing, whether for a Mediterranean cruise or an ocean crossing.
The event will take place on the dealership's premises in Port Camargue. Places are limited, so advance registration is required.
