Web series / Canary Islands: the stopover and its essential repairs before crossing the Atlantic

The Pretenders to the Atlantic are on a stopover in the Canaries. The opportunity for a nice visit in pictures, but also to welcome a new crew member, to prepare the boat for the great crossing to the Caribbean and to share her feelings, between excitement and apprehension.

The Canary Islands in their great beauty

After arriving from La Rochelle with a stopover in Galicia, the Atlantic Pretenders moored their Pogo 12.50 Luna Rosa in the Canary Islands for the traditional stopover on the way to the Caribbean. This is an opportunity for the sailors to rest, for Fabienne to take care of her ankle injured in the first leg and especially to discover the treasures of the Spanish archipelago. The director regales us with aerial views and wild panoramas of great beauty.

A growing crew

Marion, a friend of Fabienne's, a physiotherapist by profession and a freediver, joined the crew by plane to the Canaries. The joyful band integrates her on board. They all share with us their state of mind before attacking the big part of their transatlantic journey. Feelings that oscillate between confidence, excitement and nevertheless a touch of apprehension, quite natural before a first big ocean crossing.

Return the boat to 100% of its sailing potential

The stopover in the Canary Islands is also an opportunity to take care of Luna Rosa, which has had some material setbacks, as our Pretenders humorously recall in song. Between overbinding on the weakened halyards and repairing the spinnaker torn during the first stage, everything is done to give the boat back all its capacities. All that remains is to clean her up and make a final provisioning before setting sail for the Caribbean.
