Test / Pricing and competition of the Leader 12.50 WA, in the luxury world

The Leader is a day-cruiser with first-rate performance and perfect habitability for short cruises. It also enters the world of luxury with a large catalogue of options and a very attractive price

A basic rate without equipment

With the three 300 hp Yamaha F and FL BETUX/U engines, the Leader is priced at 211,000 euros excluding VAT. This price is without competition, but in practice it does not include the essential equipment used for sailing such as mooring and anchoring kits, and even less an electronic pack or the joystick. For all this, you have to use the list of options available on the brand's website with an online configurator that calculates the total price as you tick off the equipment and finishes. A version ready to sail, but without comfort and luxury will be negotiated around 250,000 euros excluding VAT.

An option list like a yacht

It has to be said that much of the personality of this sporty day cruiser can be found in the options catalogue. The T-top with its electric sliding cap, the audio pack, the front shade cloth on carbon masts, the joystick and bow thruster, the tilting side deck, the top-of-the-range upholstery, will be a must when you place your order. The list of comfort equipment is evocative of the level of luxury desired by the yard. Ceramic hob, fridge, air-conditioning, generator make up our test boat which costs 330 000 euros HT. And there is still room for improvement with a blue hull, televisions including under the T-top, and even a gyroscopic stabilizer is available, just like on a yacht. Even with all its options, the Cap Camarat's price/performance ratio remains a reference.

What about the competition?

The market for outboard-powered day cruiser walkarounds has grown considerably in recent years. A plethora of brands have appeared. The Fjord 38 express is one of the first manufacturers to have industrialized the concept of the luxury tender. It benefits from a transformable forward saloon, but only one very small cabin and less habitability than the Leader. The Nimbus T 11 and the Oryx 379 Both are outboard-mounted and are less design-oriented alternatives than performance for the former and roominess for the latter. Pardo Yachts has also made a breakthrough in this segment and its 38 is a high-performance model, but a fully equipped version will peak at more than 500,000 euros excluding VAT and with much less space everywhere. Even more top-of-the-range, the Invictus T 370 and the Vanquish 40 offer very luxurious and exclusive services, but the price is much higher for a much lower habitability.
