L'Hermione returns from the Mediterranean: last stop planned in Bordeaux

Despite a postponed stopover in Pasaia, the party was at its peak. The Hermione is now heading for Bordeaux, her last stop on the "Hermione 2018, Libres Ensemble de l'Atlantique à la Méditerranée" before returning to Rochefort in June.

The long-awaited stopover in Pasaia was, despite the delay, a real success according to the Hermione Lafayette association. In the wake of the Maritime Festivities (from 17 to 21 May 2018), the frigate made its way to the small enclave of the Spanish Basque Country, which was greeted with great fanfare. The frigate arrived under naval escort, surrounded by hundreds of visitors at sea, under the cannon fire and the impatient gaze of the thousands of enthusiastic spectators who had come to admire the show. And throughout the week (from 23 to 27 May), a continuous stream of visitors paraded on the forecastle deck, open to visitors, aboard the Hermione moored at the San Pedro de Pasaia wharf.

On the morning of 28th May, the Hermione set sail again, heading for Bordeaux, her last port of call in the "Hermione 2018, Libres Ensemble de l'Atlantique à la Méditerranée" programme, organised in partnership with the OIF, before the return trip to Rochefort on 17th June.

With weather conditions which have upset the Hermione's schedule and delayed her participation in the Spanish Maritime Festival, the frigate will nevertheless be two days ahead of schedule in Pauillac. The frigate will enter the Gironde this Friday 8 June at 12 noon, where Pauillac and the estuary will greet the ship, which will then present itself under the Jacques-Chaban-Delmas Bridge at around 2:45 pm, before docking at the pontoon located between Hangar 14 and Hangar 15 at around 3:30 pm.

For one week, visitors will be able to visit the frigate. But patience and courage, since according to the tourists who have come to the different ports of call, the visit is well deserved... They will also benefit from an OIF programme focused on innovation and digital technology and on "living together", the common thread of the trip, notably with the exhibition "All Migrants!" by Cartooning for Peace, which thwarts prejudice and stigmatization through press cartoons.

The Hermione will set sail from Bordeaux on Thursday 14th June at 8 pm to set sail for Rochefort, for a triumphant return to the Charente and her home port. The day of the 14th June will also be marked by the arrival in Aquitaine waters of the Tall Ship Race fleet from Dublin. The Hermione will take part in this gathering before leaving Bordeaux.
