Excess unveils the first images of its new catamaran, the Excess 13

Excess enveils the all-new Excess 13

In a preview, Excess previews its new model, the Excess 13, with some welcome changes, starting with a new architect.

Excess Catamarans has just lifted the veil on the Excess 13, which will be presented at the Autumn boat shows. While the newcomer retains the brand's DNA, there has been an evolution, starting with the architect, since the Excess 13 was designed by Marc Lombard YDG and the Excess team.

The idea was to create a catamaran offering good performance and responsiveness, but without forgetting interior volume and comfort.

To achieve this, the Excess 13 benefits from a composite structure which saves a lot of weight, asymmetrical hulls with thinner floats below the waterline to improve performance, and an overlapping headsail.

There have also been a number of changes to the layout compared to the brand's other models. This starts with the aft skirts, which take the form of hinged doors, allowing the cockpit to be closed when sailing and two large aft platforms when anchored. The catamaran also offers plenty of storage space in the cockpit.

The interior design was entrusted to Jean-Marc Piaton, who began his work by interviewing about thirty people (company employees, dealers, rental companies, owners) to understand the spirit of the brand, but also to ascertain their expectations for the new Excess models.

Less is more

The design process was also based on the "Less is more" philosophy, which ensures that ideas are found for using less material by adopting simple solutions without sacrificing functionality. For example, this means a rainwater recovery system on the roof, a more efficient ventilation system that limits the needs of air conditioning, or double-function doors in the cabins.

Jean-Marc Piaton's work is also visible in other areas, starting with the galley, which is easily accessible from the cockpit, but also from the interior saloon. Another highlight is the chart table facing the road.

The Excess 13 is available in 3 or 4 cabin versions. In the 3-cabin version, the owner benefits from all the space of the starboard hull, with a queen-size bed, a desk, ample storage space for clothes and a very large head forward. Guests are not neglected either, as each cabin is equipped with a double berth and a private head.

To ensure high performance, the catamaran benefits from an upwind sail area of 115 m2 (1,237 sqft) on the standard version and 124 m2 (1,334 sqft) on the Pulse version. Two 40 hp engines are installed in the hulls, along with a 2 x 200-liter fuel tank, providing excellent range.
