Test / Sea trial of the Quicksilver 805 Open: reassuring behavior for a family program

We tested the Quicksilver 805 Open off Hyères. We were able to appreciate its healthy behavior and family-friendly performance.

An excellent driving position

Our test model of the Quicksilver 805 Open was equipped with a Mercury outboard developing 225 hp, with a maximum motorization of 300 hp.

The cockpit features two bucket seats, with a choice of sitting or bolster positions. The rider's seat is longitudinally adjustable for optimum riding position. At his feet, the electrical panel with battery switch and circuit breakers is protected but accessible.

The driver's console can accommodate a 12-inch plotter. A few adjustments could be made to improve ergonomics and provide more storage compartments. On the other hand, Mercury's throttle activ trim control is easy to use.

A reassuring attitude

At the time of the test, a light westerly flow of 15 knots was blowing between Hyères and Porquerolles. After meeting the athletes training for the French Olympic week, we hit the throttle and headed for the Levant Islands.

With 4 people on board and all tanks full, our Quicksilver 805 Open launched in 7 seconds. We reached a top speed of 34 knots, while our cruising speed was 22 knots at 4000 rpm.

The maximum 300 hp engine, which is subject to tax, will enable the boat to reach speeds of up to 40 knots. But given the 805's family vocation, it's clearly not the best choice.

Easy steering

The view from the cockpit is unobstructed, and the pilot feels at ease. At the helm, the Quicksilver 805 responds well and passes easily through choppy waters.

When cornering, it keeps a very moderate heel, which is perfect for a family program. If you force the curves a little, the propeller quickly ventilates. The throttle needs to be reduced a little to stop this phenomenon, which is not a problem for family and summer use.
