Test / Gozzo 45 by Apreamare: Sailing test

3rd part of the Gozzo 45 test. We were able to test the sailing performances of the Gozzo 45 in front of the beaches of Cannes. This one is characterized by a great comfort and a safe behavior.

Two choices of engines

Our test version was powered by two Cummins blocks, each developing 600 horsepower. The yard also offers a version powered by two Volvo 480s coupled to IPS 650 subframes.

The cockpit

The half-moon cockpit is rather discreet, but provides all the necessary information on the engines and navigation. The throttle is easy to grip. The pilot can choose to sit on the leaning post or stand up. However, you need to be over 1.65 m tall to pilot standing up without having your field of vision obstructed by the windshield pillar.

A great comfort in navigation

Our test conditions are summery. The sea has a short chop of 30 to 40 cm, and the wind oscillates between 5 and 10 knots. Our exit from the Old Port of Cannes is easy. The generous displacement of the Gozzo 45 is to be taken into account, the hull being able to keep a certain inertia.

The soundproofing of the engine hold is well assured and brings a great auditive comfort to the crew.

After passing the anchorage area in front of the beach, we set course for the Esterel massif. The 1200 horsepower give it an evolving acceleration that will not rush the crew.

We cross our wake to evaluate the passage in the wave of this hull displacing 17 tons. The Gozzo 45 turns flat, even at high speed. Its tulip bow gives it an excellent passage in the wave and we feel no vibration. This stability is also found at anchor, where the Gozzo 45 rolls very little.

A good father's performance

The Gozzo 45 has a relaxed behavior, worthy of a pullman. The program of the Gozzo 45 being dedicated to family outings, it has no sporting pretensions. Its design has not been thought to bring sensations to the pilot, but to guarantee a great comfort to all passengers.

We reached the maximum speed of 31 knots, for a consumption of 238 liters per hour at an engine speed of 3000 rpm. We then stabilized at cruising speed at 24 knots, for a consumption of 155 liters per hour. At this speed, its 1600 liters tank gives it a range of more than 220 miles, taking into account a safety margin.
