In 2015, the Italian shipyard Del Pardo launched a new range called Long Cruise. With a first 46-foot model ( Great Sun 46 LC ), followed in 2017 by a larger one: the Great Sun 52 LC . This year (the sailboat will be presented at the Cannes Motor Show in September 2019), a smaller model is being announced: the Great Sun 42 LC .
This sailboat designed by Marco Lostuzzi is both comfortable and efficient. It will also be available in 2 versions: Cruise and Performance. This 13-metre sailboat uses the same codes as those found on today's cruising boats.
Thus we find a hoop (gantry) above the descent to free the cockpit from the mainsail sheet (no rail) and especially to be able to fix a soft top and a bimini (now standard in cruising). The sails are furling and the jib is self-steering (rail integrated in the deck). All manoeuvres are carried out again in front of the 2 helm stations. The cockpit is closed by a hydraulic tilting bathing platform. At the bow a bowsprit (rather a large dolphin boat) releases the anchor from the right bow and serves as a tack for the asymmetrical spinnaker or Code 0.
It is in the performance version that this yacht takes all its elegance. Indeed, no more gantry or cockpit table, make way for a mainsail sheet that comes back into the cockpit. The self-steering jib is also replaced by overlapping genoa (106%) which is bordered on 2 jib rails at the level of the gangways. The mast is also larger to increase the canvas surface area.
Whatever the version (Cruise or Performance), the arrangements are identical with 2 or 3 double cabins and 2 bathrooms. Note the classic L-shaped galley and the chart table with 2 seats on starboard. In the 2-cabin version, the port aft cabin is replaced by a large storage space.
With its successful design, if the Grand Soleil 42 LC works as well as its big brother the 46, we will have a beautiful unit there to take off.
