Zeelander Z72, a design worthy of a superyacht

After the Zeelander 44 and 55, the Dutch shipyard continues to build and range and presents its largest model, the Z72. With its 22 m length and luxurious fittings and finishes, the Dutch shipyard hopes to compete well with the superyacht market.

An exceptional flagship

Zeelander, a Dutch shipyard that produces top-of-the-range motor boats with a retro style and recognised performance, will launch its largest model in 2019. The Z72 - 22 m long - is presented as an exceptional boat by the shipyard:" The Z72 will be an exceptional flagship that combines the design and finishing characteristics of a superyacht with Zeelander's remarkable profile."

Elegance, convenience and safety

As with the other two models in the range - Z44 and Z55 - the Z72 will be all curved. Its distinctive transom will unfold into a spacious bathing platform. A handrail runs all around the boat from front to back, securing movement. Like the previous models, three pairs of hull portholes will bring light to the interior.

Finally, two coupé doors in the cockpit will facilitate access to the boat, while a garage with a side annex will accommodate a tender and a jet ski. The superstructure will feature a large inclined windscreen and side windows with a characteristic brand chassis, topped by a roof, with a slim handrail.

"An S-shaped deck line, a wider stern and even more surfaces incurvées?; Zeelander's design has evolved while remaining true to its iconic shape. We imagine producing a legendary icon with the Z72" explains Leonardo van den Berg, Sales Director of Zeelander Yachts.

A bright interior that is open to the outside world

On the main deck, the glass superstructure makes the space very bright, from the helm station at the front to the U-shaped galley at the stern, not to mention the large roof opening onto the roof that illuminates the saloon table just below.

The elevated steering position consists of a large dashboard covered with touch-screen navigation screens, with a central steering wheel, and a large bench seat with an almost uninterrupted 360° view. A staircase on starboard gives access to the cabins on the lower deck.

The steering station

The large dining table is located just behind the pilot bench, on the same raised deck, and has a large bench at the stern and a bench for 2 people on the port side. The bench seat of the steering station swivels to the rear for additional seating. The table lowers to become an additional double bed.

The square

The aft galley serves both the interior and the cockpit and has two large counters. The one at the stern can be transformed into a cockpit bar thanks to the retractable glass partition between the kitchen and the outside. Four fixed stools are placed under the roof cap to enjoy this outdoor bar.

A very large bathing platform

The rest of the cockpit is occupied at the stern by two seats facing each other with a central table, which is transformed into a large sunbathing area. The gangways, which are accessed via a few steps, provide access to the foredeck, where a second sunbathing area can be installed. If the cockpit is well protected by the high bulwarks, this is no longer the case for the gangways and the raised foredeck to gain height under the deck.

Finally, to position the Z72 in a niche similar to that of superyachts, the transom will be deployed over the sea with the backrest of the unfolded rear sofa as a sunbathing area. This area will provide additional mooring space.

Spacious double cabins

Under the bridge, the Z72 has 3 cabins. The owner's cabin installed at the front will be spacious with its own bathroom, thanks to this round bow that exudes interior space. A deck porthole added to those of the hull will provide light, while for the layout, the yard - in conjunction with the owners - has opted for rounded partitions, leather and wood. A beautiful bathroom with tiled shower, sink, mirror, toilet and dressing room will complete the owner's space. Two double cabins with private bathroom will be located in the centre of the boat

The crew quarters will also be located on the lower deck, and accessible from the after deck, with a berth and a bathroom. They will be located next to the tender garage on the side of the hull, where it is possible to deploy a RIB without interfering with the activities of the aft swimming platform.

Inboard motorization

For the powertrain, Zeelander has chosen a selection of 3 Volvo Penta IPS engines. With three IPS 1350s from 1?000 horses, the Z72 should reach a maximum speed of 40 knots. It will also benefit from a joystick to improve handling. For more comfort on board, the yard has also worked on reducing noise and vibrations. Finally, a Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilization system is available as an option.

If the price is not communicated at this time, it is likely that several million euros will be required. As a reminder, the Z55 , which we discovered in Cannes in 2017, was already costing 2.2 million.
