Superyacht SPITFIRE: a 50-metre hybrid yacht on a military hull

With SPITFIRE, ARES Yachts transforms a military hull into a superyacht for blue water cruising. This 50.55 m project combines industrial aesthetics with hybrid propulsion. It is aimed at customers seeking functionality and efficiency.

Turkish shipyard ARES Yachts is building the superyacht SPITFIRE, a 50.55 m unit inspired by its fast military patrol boat ARES 150 BOLD. The hull, adapted by Lateral Naval Architects, retains its dynamic capabilities while opening up to more versatile pleasure craft uses.

SPITFIRE, a turning point for ARES Yachts in the superyacht segment

The first large motor yacht developed by ARES Yachts, the SPITFIRE is part of a diversification strategy by a shipyard previously renowned for its military and professional vessels. Quickly launched after the SIMENA (62 m sailing yacht), this project reveals a determination to make a name for itself in the market for motor yachts over fifty meters. The chosen method, building on speculation with short lead times, suggests an industrial capacity already well in place.

The hull of a fast patrol boat in the hull of a superyacht

The original hull of the ARES 150 BOLD offers a fast-displacement architecture, with reduced beam and stable trim at high speed. It enables top speeds of over 20 knots, while maintaining a range of 3,500 nautical miles. This sea-proven platform provides a reliable basis for the SPITFIRE. Of particular note is the engineering work by Lateral Naval Architects on the hybrid propulsion and weight distribution.

Industrial aesthetics in interior design

Bannenberg & Rowell's design takes its cue from the aeronautical world, a clear reference to the British Supermarine Spitfire. The SPITFIRE's architecture is based on a low superstructure, full-width tinted windows and an open transom.

The interior uses raw materials: perforated metals, dark leather, colored glassware. The whole is punctuated by evocations of the 40s. Far from the classic codes of yachting, SPITFIRE offers a contemporary interpretation of space, functional and without ornamental overload.

What performance for a hybrid unit over 50 m

Propulsion is based on two 290 kW electric motors, powered by a self-contained battery pack capable of silent navigation for an hour. An extended battery pack would extend this range to 11 hours. Variable-speed generator systems ensure greater energy efficiency, while limiting vibrations. During stopovers, the unit can provide on-board comfort in all-electric mode.

Customization for a yacht under speculative construction

While the structure is fixed, the interior decoration still offers scope for customization. ARES Yachts offers adaptable finishes for carpets, wall fabrics and lighting. The owner will also be able to influence the layout of the beach club at the stern, designed as a space that can be transformed into a gym, cinema or lounge.

With delivery possible within 24 months, SPITFIRE combines the efficiency of an already industrialized platform with the customization capabilities expected in this segment.
