The hull of the Calypso has regained its youthfulness

The Calypso, Commander Cousteau's former minesweeper, began construction in April 2016 for a long renovation. And the work continues, since the oceanographic vessel has now recovered a hull in good condition.

Calypso continues to get a facelift in the Turkish yard in Istanbul. After the renovation of the frames and ribs in March 2017, the barroting was in the process of being cut. Since then, the work has progressed, as in May, the restoration of the boat had reached the deck.

Since mid-June, Calypso has had a brand new hull and is starting to look like a boat. The last planking has been fitted and the hull is now closed. This is an important step for The Cousteau Society, which wants to refit the vessel as a tribute to Captain Cousteau. On the engine side (of the Volvo), the association indicated that they were in good working order.

As a reminder, the renovation work is coordinated by Patrice Quesnel, former America's Cup skipper. When we contacted the Cousteau Society last spring, they estimated that it would take another year of work to complete the project.
