On Friday, 13 March, the Piriou shipyards announced that they intended to issue a seizure and sale order of the Calypso at the Cousteau Society on Monday, March 16th. This means that Captain Cousteau's famous ship will be auctioned off. As a reminder, the shipyards had told the Cousteau Society that the boat would be removed on March 12.
In a press release, the shipyard stated "The Cousteau Society did not take any concrete and significant steps that would suggest to Piriou that it had the will to execute the ruling of the Rennes Court of Appeals. As a result, and in accordance with what has been previously announced, Piriou will have Equipe Cousteau issue a seizure and sale order as early as Monday, which will lead to an auction of the Calypso."
Pascal Piriou, the CEO of the shipyards, continued "We will do what is necessary to get our hands legally free and find the best solution that will allow us both to recover the sum due to us, free our premises, but also, I deeply hope, give Calypso a future worthy of its legend."
As a reminder, the Cousteau Foundation owes a debt of 300,000 euros and must remove its flagship from the hangar where it has been stored since 2009.
