The "green" yachts to discover at the Monaco Yacht Show

Divine Superyacht

Yachts are boats that pollute, using a lot of fuel and energy to travel the seas and oceans. Today, there are nevertheless ways of consuming less, such as by adopting a hull that reduces water drag and therefore consumption, or by reducing the weight of the boat. However, these techniques are no longer sufficient and many shipyards are investing in research and development to produce more "ecological" boats

At the Monaco Yacht Show, several "innovative" boats will be presented that want to be greener. Starting with l' Arcadia 85S (Price: 1,360,000 euros) a 24 m motoryacht launched by the Italian "eco-friendly" shipyard Arcadia Yachts. With its 36m2 of solar panels installed on top of the superstructure, the Arcadia 85S provides up to 3.5 kW to guarantee self-sufficient energy for onboard equipment (refrigerator, water circulation, toilets, lights, electronics, battery charging). At anchor, the boat lives off its solar energy reserves, which saves diesel fuel, but also reduces noise, vibrations and gas emissions near the bathing platform.

These solar panels also act as thermal insulators (18° difference between inside and outside), a way to avoid air conditioning.

The hull of the Arcadia 85S has also been specially developed so that the hull shape allows the best ratio between length and beam, in terms of hydrodynamic efficiency. Studied to reduce noise, it also guarantees the boat satisfactory performance (cruising speed of 16 knots) with low power engines (MAN Diesel twin R6-730hp). The aluminium superstructure also reduces the weight of the boat and therefore its consumption.

The Colombus Yacht Shipyard will present the M/Y Sport Hybrid Divine (Price: 14 800 000 euros) a 40 m "green" yacht with a hybrid propulsion (diesel electric) that can reach the maximum speed of 20 knots (two MTU 12V 2000 M94 diesel engines). Only with electric motors, the Divine can reach the maximum speed of 8 knots, using the energy produced by the generators.

Thanks to the reduced weight of the boat - obtained with alloy materials - consumption is optimal. At a cruising speed of 15 knots, fuel consumption was 215 L/h for both engines. The interior too has been designed to reduce pollution since all woods are FSC certified and the leathers are treated with a special non-toxic water-based paint process.

Finally, Quinta Essentia (Price: 37,500,000 euros) The 55-metre motoryacht presented by the Italian shipyard Admiral is entirely made of aluminium and equipped with a hybrid propulsion system consisting of two traditional 1400 HP engines (Twin MAN LE463 1029 KW) and two 150 kW electric motors connected to variable speed generators. This system guarantees silent and efficient navigation as it can reach a top speed of 16.5 knots and a cruising speed of 15.2 knots. With its hybrid propulsion, Quinta Essentia has a very low fuel consumption of 95 L/h at a speed of 10 knots.
