The submarine, the new toy trend?

The personal submarine is growing and attracting more and more yacht owners in search of adventure. From the simple one-seater to the largest models capable of carrying 6 people, here is a small selection of the best on the market.

The submarine is the ultimate toy to have on board your yacht. A trend initiated by James Cameron in 2012 when aboard Deepsea Challenger, a 7.3 m submarine, he reached the Challenger Deep, a point located at 10,900 m depth and considered the deepest place in the ocean. Or by Richard Branson who rented his Necker Nymp submarine (a Deepflight Merlin) to visitors of his private island Necker, in the Caribbean for a 30 m deep immersion.

With the evolution of yacht sizes and the downsizing of personal submarines, this toy is more fashionable than ever and is especially suited to the newly rich, younger and adventure seeking.

Among the most trendy models, the Triton Subs 1650/3 the lightest and most compact submarine produced in series for 3 persons. (1.8 m high for 4,000 kgs). Two people plus a pilot can dive to a depth of 500 m in complete peace of mind. (Price: $3.3 million)

Deepflight has developed personal submarines with a rather atypical and futuristic design, reminiscent of a Formula 1 car. The Dragon and the Super Falcon are 5.9 m and 1,800 kg submarines that can accommodate 2 people on board and can descend to a depth of 120 m. Both are little jewels of technology, easy to drive and very safe. Price: Approximately $1.5 million

Dragon

Aurora 6 is a submarine that can accommodate up to 6 people (5 passengers + 1 pilot) in absolute comfort (rotating seats, toilets, communication system) and with a superb view thanks to its large glass bubble. With a length of 5.93 m and an empty weight of 14,500 kg, this submarine reaches a speed of 3 knots and can descend between 300 and 1,000 m deep, depending on the number of people on board.
