Chilli Island, the motorized island that wants to modernize the pedal boat

Among the toys exhibited at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Chilli Island, a kind of motorized sunbed, caught our attention. With its rounded shape and three palm leaves on top, the Chilli-Island seeks to establish itself as the pedal boat's revival.

Chilli-Island is a motorized floating device - a kind of sunbed - that can comfortably accommodate 2 people for a walk on the water. With a length and width of 2 m, the Chilli-Island is made of polyethylene and its rounded and ergonomic shape accommodates two sunbathing areas specially developed to fit the body's shape. At the top, removable palm leaves provide shade.

At the crossroads between the toy, the electric boat and the floating device, Chilli Island is intended to be a new object of nautical leisure. It took the Austrian company 3 years to develop its electric island. At the Nautic de Paris, in 2015, we were able to discover the Céclo, a modern and chic pedal boat with electrically assisted propulsion.

On board, there is a Bluetooth audio system for smartphones or tablets, a cooler and cup holders or storage units to keep your things dry. Three packages exist to increase on-board comfort (Look & Style, Light & Sound and Power & Vision or all 3 handsets). For example, Chilli Island may be equipped with underwater lighting, an anchoring mechanism, an underwater camera, etc. The chairs allow you to slide directly into the water and a ladder at the front makes it easy to get back on board.

Chile Island wants to replace the old-fashioned pedal boat with an elegant and electric system. However, the islet should be used on a relatively flat surface, i.e. on lakes or on hotel complex beaches where the sea is calm.

The island is equipped with a 0.5 kW Torqeedo electric motor for the CLASSIC model and a 1.0 kW motor for the Power & Vision model. Two batteries allow an approximate autonomy of 6 hours. A joystick installed in the center of the sunbed controls the movement. Finally, an on-board computer provides information on range, speed, etc

Chilli Island, which is aimed both at private individuals (?15,000 including tax) and professionals (leisure centres, hotels, etc.), has already sold 10 copies in the summer of 2016 in Austria, Germany and Hungary. Alexandra Kraft, who initiated the project, now wants to internationalize her product and has launched a Kickstarter, which has not been successful.
