The Tour de France à la Voile was bought in 2012 by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), in order to offer the public a more dynamic event. After making changes in recent years, on the duration of the event, on the village of the event, on the animations, today it is a new medium that will make its arrival in the race.

The "Diam 24 Revolution

The Diam 24 will be the new boat used for the Tour de France à la Voile 2015, built by Vianney Ancelin. This 7.25 meter multihull will be a one-design, so it will be up to the sailors to stand out. Easily dismantled (about 1 hour and 15 minutes), it is ideal for a touring event like the Tour de France à la Voile. After each event, the central hull and the floats, but also the other elements will be transported by trailer to the next stage.

" The Tour de France à la Voile is a popular event, reaching more and more people and audiences. We want to continue our opening to the general public. This is the meaning of the "Diam 24 revolution", which will bring the sporting spectacle closer to the land via a fun, fast and spectacular boat. It's a real satisfaction to see the magnificent dynamic set in motion by this change of boat, with in particular a historic sporting line-up; we look forward to July 2015!" explains Yann Le Moënner, General Manager of Amaury Sport Organisation.

Each crew will be three, but for 100% female crews, it is possible to bring a 4 ème person on board. However, it will be necessary to respect the weight limit of 260 kg on board, imposed by the event. Each member of the team has a defined role:

  • The helmsman also takes care of the mainsail traveler adjustments
  • The mainsail trimmer also deals with the tactics
  • The headsail trimmer is responsible for the genoa and spinnaker.

31 crews registered for 2015

Registration for the TFV 2015 was completed in just a few hours! The Diam 24, a new race support has created a lot of excitement in the sailing world. There will be 31 crews on the course, which brings together 9 French cities. The title holder, Daniel Souben, will be present, as well as some of the great names in ocean racing such as Beyou, Cammas, Guichard, Lemonchois, Riou, Rogues, Seguin, Stamm, Thomas Coville and Tabarly. Women at the head of female crews such as Anne-Claire Le Berre and Laure Caucanas will also be present. Damien Seguin will lead a handivoile project.

It is a varied line-up that will take part in this 2015 edition, as ASO wished when setting up this new support. And it's not an understatement to say that Aurélien Ducroz, double world champion in freeride skiing, recently converted to the regatta, will be part of the event.

The public at the heart of the event

This year, the public will be able to attend a great show thanks to this new Diam 24 trimaran which allows to " to bring the show closer to the earth and therefore to the audience" as Jean-Etienne Amaury, President of A.S.O. reminded us during the presentation of the Nautic. Each skipper wants to stand out and ensure the show. The format of the regatta has also been changed, since each stage will take place in two days, the first one dedicated to short, spectacular and commented races in nautical stadiums with live music and the second one reserved for coastal raids highlighting iconic points of the coastline.

On land, the TFV 2 015 Village will host numerous events with concerts, areas on the beaches and its promotional caravan. During the 9 stages of this Tour de France à la Voile the Diam 24s will be welcomed either in the ports or in public paddocks where they will be able to approach the boats and meet the crews.
