In this 3rd installment, we describe our sailing trip off Bonifacio, which enabled us to see for ourselves the qualities of this new hull associated with the Honda engine manufacturer.

A new agreement with Honda

Our test model was equipped with the maximum power rating, 115 hp. Fanale Marine has signed an agreement with engine manufacturer Honda to equip its production. The BF 115 therefore takes pride of place on the transom of the Piuma 600. The partnership between Honda Marine and Fanale Marine is based on mutual development. Honda Marine, with its 60 years of experience in Europe, is strengthening its presence in the Mediterranean market. Fanale Marine, for its part, benefits from the reputation and reliability of Honda engines assembled directly in its workshops in Pietrosella, near Ajaccio.

Sailing in the Bouches de Bonifacio

For this sailing trip on a boat just out of the yard, we meet in the port of Bonifacio. In this early spring, the temperature is pleasant and the light thermal promises us around 15 knots with a long swell typical of the Bouches de Bonifacio.

After sailing up the channel at a speed of 5 knots, we open the throttle and set a westerly course. The Honda BF 115 brings the Piuma 600 up to speed quickly and easily. At the helm, the driving position is good, and we're well protected by the high windshield.

The passenger stands upright in the gangway, on the sturdy t-top pillar. A small trunk under the steering wheel can accommodate a small backpack and a few pairs of shoes.

Great performance with only 115 hp

There are two of us on board, with a full 110-liter fuel tank. We reach a top speed of 31.5 knots, on an irregular stretch of water. We link long curves and tight bends with a great deal of piloting pleasure. The optional electric controls are incredibly smooth and supple, a real asset for the pilot.

We then stabilize at a cruising speed of 22 knots, giving the Piuma 600 a range of around 140 miles.

Although not a sports unit, the Piuma 600 offers satisfactory performance and reassuring seakeeping for family use.
