Depending on the series, athletes will have to run 4, 5 or 6 days, with each run lasting between 15 and 50 minutes.
Conventional organization in 470, ILCA, Nacra 17, 49er and 49er FX
Athletes are ranked by adding up the points corresponding to their place in each race. The top 1 er wins a point, the 2 e wins 2...

At the end of the first 4 or 5 days of racing, the top 10 finishers take part in a final race called the "Medal Race", the equivalent of the final. In this Medal Race, points won count double. This final day can therefore prove highly strategic, as it is capable of altering the rankings established since the start of the races. The podium is then made up of the three athletes with the fewest points.

A different format for IQfoil and Formula Kite
In IQfoil, the regatta courses last four days and will be different from one day to the next. Windsurfers will have to alternate between conventional courses, slalom and endurance events. During the latter, points won count double, and can shake up the rankings.

The final day is then quite busy. The ¼ final is reserved for athletes ranked 4 e at 10 e place. The top two finishers in this round are then selected for the semi-final.
They then join the 2 e and the 3rd e of the overall ranking. In this 4-competitor round, only the top two finishers are selected for the final.
The final features the top two finishers from the semi-final, plus the overall leader. The podium is already established, but this final round will define the medal won by each of the three athletes.
In Formula Kite, after four days of racing, the top 10 finishers qualify for the Medal Race.

From then on, only those ranked 3 to 10 race the first leg of the Medal Race. The top two finishers then join the 2nd and 1st place finishers in the 4-way final. In the final, each heat win earns one point. The winner with 3 points takes the top step of the podium.
